DENVER — The Broncos' preseason home opener is almost upon us.
And as fans enter Empower Field at Mile High for Sunday's game against the Packers, they can expect an enhanced game-day experience.
Following a record $100 million in upgrades ahead of the 2023 season, the Broncos and the Walton-Penner Family Ownership Group have remained committed to elevating the fan experience and have invested in several upgrades for 2024. President Damani Leech and Senior Vice President of Strategy and Business Development Jesse Nading presented some of these enhancements on Tuesday.
"The Walton-Penner Family Ownership Group, particularly Greg [Penner] as CEO and [Owner] Carrie [Walton Penner] have just been laser focused on the fan experience," Leech said Tuesday. "[They] really wanted to deliver upgrades for the fan experience [and] create memories for them on and off the field, and you'll see a lot of that today."
Leech highlighted three key upgrades for 2024: the opening of Club 1977, additional investment in the Stadium Artist Series and an upgrade to food and beverage offerings.
Club 1977, a new all-inclusive premium space for fans, pays tribute to the 1977 Broncos team and the Broncos' "Orange Crush" era. Membership includes suite access for games and concerts at Empower Field at Mile High, as well as an annual away game trip.
While Club 1977 was created specifically to honor the history of the Broncos, several of the other 2024 upgrades were designed to honor the state of Colorado and the local community.
"Something that was really important to [Owner Carrie Walton Penner] and important to us [was] obviously celebrating not just the pride, tradition and history of the Broncos, but also what's special about the Rocky Mountain region," Leech said.
This local pride was incorporated into the food and beverage upgrades, which include the introduction of 12 new vendors and 10 new signature items. In response to fan feedback, the new offerings feature local restaurants such as Blue Pan Pizza and a selection from the TAG restaurant group.
"I think we recognize that food and beverage is a really important part of the game-day experience for a lot of our fans," Nading said. "So, it's something that we, in partnership with Aramark, look at really closely and really want to listen to our fans [about]."
Colorado pride and tradition is also on display through the Stadium Artist Series, which showcases the work of local artists throughout Empower Field at Mile High. This year's upgrades include the addition of three new murals to complement the existing eight that were unveiled last season.
Leech noted that each of the upgrades were fueled by the Walton-Penner Family Ownership Group's "commitment to the fans" that continues to play a key role in future plans for growth and development.
"Right away, as we saw last year, [it's about], 'What can we do to make the fan experience better on game days?'" Leech said. "It really pushed us to be really thoughtful about it. Not just what we're doing, but why we are doing it. We expect to continue to see that here every year."
